All transfers depart from Brnik Airport — officially Jože Pučnik Airport (IATA: LJU), operated by Fraport Slovenia. We drive you directly to Split old town, the ferry port, or your hotel. No border stop — Croatia joined Schengen in January 2023.
Why Split?
Split is not like other cities. The entire old town is built inside — and around and on top of — a Roman emperor's retirement palace. Diocletian's Palace was built around 300 AD for the emperor Diocletian. Today it houses restaurants, bars, apartments, and the city cathedral (which was originally Diocletian's mausoleum). People live inside a Roman palace. It's extraordinary.
Beyond the palace, Split is a proper Croatian city — not a museum piece. The Riva promenade is where locals and tourists mix, where football is debated loudly over coffee, and where the evening stroll (korzo) is still a serious ritual.
And then there are the islands. From Split's ferry port, you can reach Brač (the famous Zlatni Rat beach), Hvar (lavender fields and nightlife), Vis (the most unspoiled), and Korčula in a matter of hours.
What to See in Split
- Diocletian's Palace — wander the underground halls, the peristyle square, and the labyrinthine alleys inside the palace walls
- Cathedral of Saint Domnius — originally the emperor's mausoleum, converted to a church in the 7th century
- Riva Promenade — the waterfront boulevard, lined with cafés and facing the islands
- Marjan Hill — a pine-forested hill above the city with views across the Adriatic to the islands
- Meštrović Gallery — the summer residence and studio of Croatia's greatest sculptor
- Ferry to Hvar or Brač — Hvar town (1.5h) for beauty and atmosphere; Zlatni Rat beach on Brač (50min) for swimming
- Trogir — a UNESCO-listed medieval island town, just 30 minutes from Split by bus or taxi
