Why Zadar?
Zadar is Dalmatia without the crowds of Dubrovnik. The old town is built on a small peninsula, surrounded by sea on three sides, with Roman ruins, medieval churches, and narrow streets that have been used for 3,000 years. It's lively, authentic, and surprisingly affordable.
Two installations have made Zadar famous in recent years. The Sea Organ (Morske orgulje) is a set of pipes built into the sea stairs — waves push air through them and produce an ever-changing musical chord. Sit on the steps at dusk and just listen. Nearby, the Sun Salutation (Pozdrav suncu) is a circle of solar panels embedded in the pavement that light up after dark in pulsing, shifting colours. It's genuinely mesmerising.
Zadar is also a gateway. The islands of Ugljan, Pašman, and Dugi Otok are a short ferry ride away. Krka National Park is 45 minutes south. Šibenik is an hour away. It's a town you can happily base yourself in.

- Kalele Gate & City Walls — 16th-century Venetian fortifications around the old town
- Zadar Market — fresh fish, local cheeses, olive oil, and Maraschino liqueur
- Day trip to Krka — waterfalls, swimming, and a Franciscan monastery on an island in the river
How to Get from Brnik Airport to Zadar
There is no direct bus from Ljubljana Airport to Zadar. Public transport involves a shuttle to Ljubljana, a bus to Zagreb or Split, and a change — making the journey 6–8 hours with luggage.
