All transfers depart from Brnik Airport — officially Jože Pučnik Airport (IATA: LJU), operated by Fraport Slovenia. We drop you at whichever entrance you need — Entrance 1 (Upper Lakes) or Entrance 2 (Lower Lakes).

Why Plitvice Lakes?

Plitvice Lakes National Park is one of those places that looks too good to be real — and then you arrive and it's even better. Sixteen terraced lakes, connected by waterfalls and boardwalks through beech and fir forest. The colour of the water changes with the light: pale green in the morning, deep turquoise by afternoon.

It's been a UNESCO World Heritage Site since 1979 — one of the earliest in the world — and it remains one of Croatia's crown jewels. The trails are well-maintained and the park is large enough that even on busy days, you can find quieter corners.

The drive from Ljubljana Airport takes about 2.5 hours, entirely on motorway. No border stop — Croatia joined Schengen in January 2023.

Tips for Visiting Plitvice Lakes

• Book tickets in advance — the park is popular and tickets sell out, especially in summer. Buy online at np-plitvicka-jezera.hr.
• Which entrance? Entrance 2 (Donja jezera) gives access to the most iconic Lower Lakes waterfall (Veliki Slap). Entrance 1 is better for Upper Lakes and shorter routes.
• Best time to arrive — morning is best. Light is better, it's cooler, and the crowds are lighter. Ask us for an early pickup.
• Wear comfortable shoes — the wooden boardwalks can be slippery after rain.
• Allow at least 4–5 hours — the full circuit (Route K or H) takes 4–6 hours. A shorter visit (2–3 hours) is possible but you'll miss a lot.
• Return transfer — we can wait for you or come back at a set time. Let us know when you book.

Plitvice as Part of a Wider Journey — Not Just a Day Trip

Most people visit Plitvice Lakes as a standalone day trip. But it's also the perfect midpoint stop on a longer journey — geographically it sits between Ljubljana and Dalmatia, and factoring it into a multi-day itinerary makes the drive more worthwhile.

Season Guide — When to Visit Plitvice

• 🌸 April–May — waterfalls at their fullest (snowmelt), fewer crowds than summer. Best light for photos. Some paths may be closed if water is very high.
• ☀️ June–August — peak season. Arrive before 08:00 or after 15:00 to avoid the worst crowds. Tickets sell out weeks ahead — book early. Water is at its most vivid turquoise.
• 🍂 September–October — arguably the best time. Autumn colours in the forest, smaller crowds, cooler temperatures. Tickets still need advance booking in September.
• ❄️ November–March — off-season. Fewer visitors, eerie beauty when snow-covered. Some paths and ferry routes are closed. Check the official site before planning a winter visit.

How to Get from Brnik Airport to Plitvice Lakes

There is no direct public transport from Ljubljana Airport to Plitvice Lakes. The public route involves a shuttle to Ljubljana, then a bus to Plitvice — with waiting times, the journey often takes 4+ hours. And you're dependent on the bus schedule for your return.
