Your Options from Split to Brnik Airport
Split is the furthest Dalmatian destination we cover. Your Adriatic holiday is ending — here's every realistic way to reach Ljubljana Airport in time for your flight.
🚖 Private transfer — fastest door-to-door
~480km · ~4h 30min · pickup from your Split hotel or the ferry port
from €600 car (up to 4)
We pick you up anywhere in Split — your apartment, hotel, or even the ferry terminal if you're arriving from an island. The A1 motorway runs straight north to Ljubljana. No border stops since Croatia joined Schengen in January 2023. We stop if you need a break.
🚌 Bus (overnight) — budget option
Split → Ljubljana: ~8–10h · overnight departures available
Overnight buses run from Split to Ljubljana (prices from ~€30). You depart in the evening and arrive in Ljubljana in the morning. From Ljubljana bus station, take a shuttle or taxi to Brnik Airport (~25min). This works well if your flight is mid-morning or later. Not suitable for early morning flights.
✈️ Fly from Split Airport (SPU)
Split has its own international airport (SPU) with direct routes to many European cities. If you have flexibility on which airport you depart from, check whether flying Split is an option — it may save you the long transfer. If you're committed to Ljubljana (Brnik), a private transfer or overnight bus are your realistic choices.
🚗 Rental car
If you rented a car at Ljubljana Airport and drove south, return it at Brnik on departure. The drive is ~4h 30min on the A1. Factor in fuel, Croatian and Slovenian motorway tolls (vignette required in Slovenia), and the return desk at Brnik. Leave early — add buffer for the car return process.
How Early Should You Leave Split?
⏱ Recommended pickup time: 7h before your scheduled flight departure.
The drive is 4.5 hours. We add a comfortable buffer for check-in, security, and unexpected delays. We confirm the exact time when you book.
The A1 south of Zagreb can see heavier traffic on Sunday afternoons (summer return traffic). We factor seasonal conditions into your pickup time. For morning flights, we recommend booking an early start — Split at 4am is better than a missed flight.
We're happy to do a rest stop along the way at a motorway service area — just let us know.
