Piran is one of those places that genuinely surprises people. Slovenia doesn't have a long coastline β just 47 km β but what it has is exceptional. Piran's medieval old town sits on a narrow peninsula jutting into the Adriatic, its Venetian campanile visible for miles. It's intimate, well-preserved, and best enjoyed slowly.

Via Koper β practical but involves a change
Buses from Ljubljana's Avtobusna postaja run to the coast, most with a change in Koper. Total journey 2β2.5 hours. The bus drops you at Piran's entrance β the old town is pedestrianised. Check ap.si for the latest timetables, especially outside summer.

Can I visit Piran as a day trip from Ljubljana?
Yes, but it's tight. You'd have 4β5 hours at the coast if you leave Ljubljana by 9am and return by 7pm. Most people who go find they wish they'd stayed overnight β the evening atmosphere is the best part of Piran.
