Transfer to Lake Bled
Why Lake Bled?
You've probably seen the photos — a tiny island with a church in the middle of an impossibly blue lake, framed by mountains, a medieval castle perched high on a cliff above. It looks too perfect to be real.
It is real. And it's even more stunning in person.
Lake Bled sits in the foothills of the Julian Alps, just 35 minutes from Ljubljana Airport. The lake is warm enough for swimming in summer, surrounded by a 6-kilometer walking path, and crowned by Bled Castle — the oldest castle in Slovenia, dating back over 1,000 years.
In the middle of the lake, the Bled Island holds the Church of the Assumption. Tradition says if you ring its bell, your wish will come true. You reach it by pletna — a traditional wooden boat rowed by local boatmen.
Things to Do at Lake Bled
- Walk around the lake — the 6 km loop takes about 90 minutes, with benches and viewpoints along the way
- Visit Bled Castle — panoramic views of the lake, a small museum, and a wine cellar where you can bottle your own
- Take a pletna to the island — ring the wishing bell in the church
- Try the Bled cream cake (kremšnita) — layers of vanilla custard, whipped cream, and crispy pastry. The original is at Park Hotel
- Swim in the lake — the water reaches 24°C in summer. Several spots around the shore
- Vintgar Gorge — a dramatic 1.6 km wooden walkway through a gorge, just 4 km from Bled
- Rent a rowing boat — row yourself to the island or simply float on the lake
The Drive to Bled
From Ljubljana Airport, the drive takes about 35 minutes. You head north on the motorway through the Gorenjska region — Slovenia's alpine heartland. On clear days, you can see Triglav, the country's highest peak.
From Ljubljana city center, it's about 45 minutes. The route passes through the town of Kranj, with its stunning canyon, before reaching the lake.
We drop you off exactly where you need — your hotel, apartment, or right at the lakeside. No dragging suitcases from bus stops.
Good to Know
How long should I stay at Bled?
Most people spend 1–2 nights. That gives you time to walk the lake, visit the castle, take a pletna ride, and relax. If you love hiking, you could easily spend 3–4 days exploring nearby trails.
Can I combine Bled with Bohinj?
Absolutely. Lake Bohinj is only 30 minutes further. Many visitors do both — Bled for the postcard views, Bohinj for the wild alpine feel. We can arrange both transfers.
Is Bled crowded?
In July and August, yes — it's popular. But mornings are calm, and the walk around the lake is never truly crowded. Shoulder season (May–June, September–October) is ideal.
What about winter?
Bled is beautiful in winter too. The lake occasionally freezes, the castle is draped in snow, and you're close to ski resorts. Fewer tourists, lower prices.
