Ljubljana Airport (Jože Pučnik Airport, LJU) is about 25 km north of the city, near the town of Brnik. The drive to the city center takes about 25–30 minutes.

How long should I spend in Ljubljana?
Two days is ideal — enough to see the castle, explore the old town, enjoy the food scene, and get a feel for the city. Ljubljana is also a perfect base for day trips to Bled, Postojna Cave, or the coast.
Is Ljubljana expensive?
Compared to Western European capitals, Ljubljana is quite affordable. Good restaurant meals cost €10–20, coffee is €2–3, and most attractions are reasonably priced or free.
Can I walk everywhere in the center?
Yes. The old town is small and completely pedestrian. You can walk from one end to the other in 15 minutes. Most hotels, restaurants, and sights are within walking distance.
Ljubljana — The First Hours After Landing
Ljubljana Airport is small and uncomplicated. Arrivals, baggage claim, and exit take 20–40 minutes from wheels-down for most flights. The drive to the city center is 25 km on the A2 motorway — straightforward, no traffic except Friday afternoons when the motorway toward Bled backs up (not relevant for the city direction).
On arrival in the city, a few orientation notes:
- The old town is mostly pedestrianised — we drop you as close as possible to your hotel. In the old town area, this means the edge of the pedestrian zone (Prešeren Square, Congress Square, or the riverside). Walking from there to most hotels is under 5 minutes.
- Ljubljana Central Market (Tržnica) is open Tuesday–Sunday, best Saturday mornings. If you're arriving on a weekend, it's worth building in 30 minutes there before checking in.
- The Dragon Bridge — you'll cross it or pass near it on the way into the old town. Worth stopping. The four bronze dragons guard the corners of the bridge and the city — local legend says they wag their tails when a Ljubljana virgin passes. The bridge was built in 1901.
- Ljubljana Castle funicular — runs from Krekov trg (old town) directly to the castle courtyard. 2-minute ride, €4 return. Views over the city and the Alps on clear days. Skip the self-guided audio tour and just walk the ramparts.
