Transfer to Piran
Why Piran?
Imagine a tiny peninsula jutting into the Adriatic Sea. On it, a medieval town of honey-colored stone buildings, church bell towers, and streets so narrow that neighbors can almost shake hands from their windows.
That's Piran. For centuries it was part of the Venetian Republic, and the influence is everywhere — in the architecture, the food, the atmosphere. Tartini Square, the town's main gathering place, is named after the famous violinist who was born here.
Piran is small enough to explore in an afternoon, but charming enough to keep you for days. The sunsets from the town walls are legendary. The seafood is some of the best in the Adriatic.
What to See in Piran
- Tartini Square — the elegant main square, one of the most beautiful in the Adriatic
- Town walls — climb for panoramic views of the coast and on clear days, the Alps
- St. George's Church — bell tower with views over the rooftops and sea
- Punta — the tip of the peninsula, perfect for sunset watching
- Seafood restaurants — try the local catch: sea bass, calamari, mussels
- Sečovlje Salt Pans — ancient salt harvesting just outside town (great for cycling)
- Swimming spots — rocky beaches and clear water right in town
The Drive to Piran
From Ljubljana Airport, the drive takes about 1 hour and 45 minutes. The route heads southwest on the motorway, passing through the Karst region — limestone landscapes, red soil, vineyards.
From Ljubljana city center, it's about 1 hour and 30 minutes. The last part of the drive follows the coast, with views of the Adriatic opening up as you approach.
Piran's old town is mostly car-free. We drop you off at the edge of town, just a short walk from your accommodation. If you have heavy luggage, we'll help you figure out the best drop-off point.
Good to Know
Can I combine Piran with Portoroz?
Absolutely — they're only 3 km apart. Many visitors stay in Portoroz (more hotels, beach) and walk or bus to Piran (old town charm). We can drop you at either.
Is there a beach in Piran?
Yes, but they're rocky rather than sandy. The main swimming area is below the town walls. For sandy beaches, Portoroz is better. But swimming in Piran has that special "swimming next to a medieval town" feeling.
What about parking in Piran?
Parking in Piran is very limited and expensive. That's another great reason to take a transfer instead of renting a car. We drop you off, and you explore on foot.
