The Coast-to-Mountains Route

From Portorož to Lake Bled is one of Slovenia's great road trips — from the Adriatic up through the karst plateau, past Ljubljana, and into the Julian Alps. About 2.5 hours. Many visitors do this at the end of a beach holiday before flying home.

Portorož vs Piran — Understanding the Difference

Portorož and Piran are on the same bay, 3 km apart, but attract completely different visitors. Portorož is the resort: large hotels, a casino, thalasso spa, beach with loungers, marina with superyachts. Piran is the old town: car-free medieval lanes, Venetian architecture, Tartini Square, a cathedral on the hill with sea views.

Many travellers stay in Portorož hotels but walk to Piran for dinner. The road between them is flat and walkable — 30–40 minutes on foot along the seafront promenade. A taxi between them is under 5 minutes.
